This is (hopefully) the final update from the NJ Forest Fire Service on the Craigmeur Lookout Fire in Rockaway Township, Morris County. See my November 2nd post on this fire for earlier updates, a video and links to my earlier posts. As of 5:30 PM, the 202 acre fire was at 85 percent containment. The NJ Forest Fire Service will remain at the scene of the fire strengthen containment lines and monitor the fire. There were no injuries and no damage to any houses that were threatened or evacuated. Smoke is expected to remain until there is significant rainfall. Kudos to the New Jersey Forest Fire wildland firefighters and the firefighters from local fire departments in Bergen, Essex, Passaic, Sussex Warren, and Morris Counties who fought the fire. I have blogged about aerial wildland firefighting since 2009. I am not a firefighter and am not a pilot, just an interested bystander who wants to learn more and share what I learn here. Join me here as I blog on the aircraft and the pilots who fight wildland fires from the air in support of crews on the ground. I also blog on concerns affecting fire crews on the ground as well as other aviation and meteorology issues. Learn what it takes to do jobs that are staffed by the best of the best.
