I have blogged about aerial wildland firefighting since 2009. I am not a firefighter and am not a pilot, just an interested bystander who wants to learn more and share what I learn here. Join me here as I blog on the aircraft and the pilots who fight wildland fires from the air in support of crews on the ground. I also blog on concerns affecting fire crews on the ground as well as other aviation and meteorology issues. Learn what it takes to do jobs that are staffed by the best of the best.

Oct 11-12 Rainfall
Obtained from National Water Prediction Service on October 12
Yesterday we had a decent rainfall here in New Jersey and environs. I measured about 2.35 inches in my rain gauge. As it had been several days since we had a decent rainfall I was starting to wonder about increased wildfire danger if the rain continued to hold off or if we only had light rainfall. While I know that soil can dry up and there is also a risk of wildfires, I am grateful for the rain.
