I have blogged about aerial wildland firefighting since 2009. I am not a firefighter and am not a pilot, just an interested bystander who wants to learn more and share what I learn here. Join me here as I blog on the aircraft and the pilots who fight wildland fires from the air in support of crews on the ground. I also blog on concerns affecting fire crews on the ground as well as other aviation and meteorology issues. Learn what it takes to do jobs that are staffed by the best of the best.

Smokey the Bear turned 82 on August 9th
If I am correct Smokey the Bear turned 82 on August 9th, meaning that he first appeared 82 years ago in 1924. I do not quite recall when I first learned about Smokey the Bear, but he remains on my mind, especially over the 22 years I have been doing this blog. I feel like my words are wholly inadequate. But I hope that you look at the link I provided of Smokey thru the years. I found a short video of Smokey flying over the New Jersey shore that I believe was shared on NJ.com this morning, hlu should be able to find the video here.
