I believe that I learned about the wildfires that are burning in Greece yesterday. These wildfires are the worst that Greece has seen in ten years. At least 60 are dead and 100 are injured. I understand that Greece has asked for help from the European Union. Bill Gabbert of Wildfire Today wrote about these wildfires in Greece on July 24th.

And it is not just Greece that is experiencing wildfires, Bill Gabbert reports on wildfires in Sweden on July 24th. There are also wildfires in Italy (see article 1, article 2, and article 3). Note these articles are in Italian and I had to use the translate feature on Google Chrome to get an English translation. There is also a wildfire burning in Cyprus, again I had to use the translate feature on Google Chrome to get an English translation. I have blogged about aerial wildland firefighting since 2009. I am not a firefighter and am not a pilot, just an interested bystander who wants to learn more and share what I learn here. Join me here as I blog on the aircraft and the pilots who fight wildland fires from the air in support of crews on the ground. I also blog on concerns affecting fire crews on the ground as well as other aviation and meteorology issues. Learn what it takes to do jobs that are staffed by the best of the best.
