I have been writing about the Greenwood Fire (Superior National Forest, MN) that as of late this morning has burned 25,591 acres. There are reports that a number of structures have been lost, see the August 26th report from ABC News. Bill Gabbert of Wildfire Today did his usual fine job reporting on the Greenwood Fire in his August 26th post. As you can see from this short report from WDIO (August 25th), Volunteer Fire Departments from Ely MN and elsewhere in Minnesota have responded to the Greenwood Fire.
I have blogged about aerial wildland firefighting since 2009. I am not a firefighter and am not a pilot, just an interested bystander who wants to learn more and share what I learn here. Join me here as I blog on the aircraft and the pilots who fight wildland fires from the air in support of crews on the ground. I also blog on concerns affecting fire crews on the ground as well as other aviation and meteorology issues. Learn what it takes to do jobs that are staffed by the best of the best.
