I have blogged about aerial wildland firefighting since 2009. I am not a firefighter and am not a pilot, just an interested bystander who wants to learn more and share what I learn here. Join me here as I blog on the aircraft and the pilots who fight wildland fires from the air in support of crews on the ground. I also blog on concerns affecting fire crews on the ground as well as other aviation and meteorology issues. Learn what it takes to do jobs that are staffed by the best of the best.

Mosquito netting
A trip to Africa is not complete without, you guessed it, mosquito netting. This is a not so great photo of my bed at Wendel's complete with mosquito netting. I promised a picture of mosquito netting and I delivered. I'm also a little punchy after spending 14 hours on two airplanes flying from London to Malawi. And I only forgot a couple of relatively unimportant things, some nicer socks.
We had our first dinner as a group, I'll post more about that tomorrow morning.
One thing I am struck by is how nice the people in Malawi are. Real nice. And a generosity of spirit.
Right now, I am going to crawl under the mosquito netting with my laptop to work on my next blog entry. And yes, I remembered to take my malaria pill.
